TGJTA Highlights “GTI” at the 2025 China Shanwei Colored Gemstone Industry Development Conference
Mr. Chomphol Phornchindarak, President of the Thai Gem and Jewelry Traders Association (TGJTA), together with Ms.Vilasinee Noknuam, Secretary-General of the Association, attended the 2025 China Shanwei Colored Gemstone Industry Development Conference held in Shanwei City, Guangdong Province, China.

The international jewelry exhibition attracted over 3,000 exhibitors from Sri Lanka, Poland, South Korea, and across China, showcasing their products in eight themed zones that combined traditional craftsmanship with digital innovation — including live-streaming e-commerce booths and jewelry-making workshops.
Today, Shanwei has become a powerhouse in the global gemstone industry, with an industrial output value of RMB 35 billion. The city accounts for more than 70% of the world’s crystal processing. Each year, Shanwei processes over 50,000 tons of colored gemstones and around 9,000 tons of gold and silver jewelry, supported by more than 21,000 enterprises in the precious metals sector.

In terms of digital trade, Shanwei is home to over 3,000 e-commerce companies, generating an annual transaction volume exceeding RMB 13 billion and exporting products to more than 180 countries and regions worldwide.
During the event, the Gemports Transaction Index (GTI) — an international standard index for the colored gemstone market — was officially introduced. The index was developed jointly by the Thai Gem and Jewelry Traders Association and leading Chinese institutions to establish a reliable data framework for strategic planning and investment decision-making within the gemstone industry.

On this occasion, Mr. Chomphol Phornchindarak was invited as a keynote speaker at the “2025 China Shanwei Colored Gemstone Industry Development Conference,” where he presented the Gemports Transaction Index (GTI) and shared insights from the Gemports Global Trend 2025 Q3 report, outlining the current dynamics and future trends of the global colored gemstone market.

Mr. Chomphol emphasized that the GTI is not merely a price-tracking tool but an integrated market-based index built from real transaction data, especially for rubies and sapphires. It analyzes key variables including price movements, trading volume, size, quality, enhancement methods, and origin. This makes the GTI a powerful instrument for reflecting market trends, liquidity, and gemstone availability.
