TGJTA President Visits Kunming University of Science and Technology to Explore Academic and Research Collaboration in the Gem and Jewelry Industry

Mr. Chomphol Phornchindarak, President of the Thai Gem and Jewelry Traders Association (TGJTA), accompanied by Ms. Wilasinee Noknuam, Secretary-General of the Association, paid an official visit to the Faculty of Materials Science and Engineering (MSE) at Kunming University of Science and Technology (KUST), People’s Republic of China, to discuss potential collaboration in academic exchange, research, and industrial development.

Established in 1958, the Faculty of Materials Science and Engineering at KUST is one of China’s leading institutions in the field, known for its expertise in rare metals, precious metals, advanced coating materials, and optoelectronic materials. The faculty has made significant contributions to national research projects and has successfully transferred technologies to both the civilian industrial sector and China’s aerospace industry.

During the visit, the TGJTA delegation explored ongoing research related to materials used in the production of jewelry, including advanced jewelry molding materials, high-quality metal alloys for fine jewelry, and surface coating technologies designed to enhance durability and brilliance. These innovations offer great potential for application in the next generation of jewelry products.

This visit marks an important step toward establishing international academic cooperation between TGJTA and one of China’s premier research institutions. Both parties exchanged visions on how to strengthen research and innovation in new materials, as well as discussed opportunities to co-develop skilled professionals to support the future of the gem and jewelry industry across the Asian region.

TGJTA remains committed to fostering partnerships that integrate academic knowledge, technological innovation, and industry advancement, reinforcing Thailand’s leadership role in the global gem and jewelry market.
