TGJTA & GJPCT Supports Suvarnabhumi Customs with Expert Diamond Valuation


Collaboration Between TGJTA , GJPCT and Suvarnabhumi Customs

The Thai Gem and Jewelry Traders Association (TGJTA) The Gem Jewelry and Precious Metal Association Confederation of Thailand (GJPCT) has joined hands with the Suvarnabhumi Airport Passenger Customs Office to support the inspection and valuation of confiscated diamonds, gems, and jewelry imported into Thailand without proper customs declaration.

  

TGJTA Leadership Participation

The initiative was led by Mr. Chomphol Phornchindarak, President of TGJTA, and Mr.Somchai Phornchindarak, President of GJPCT. together with Ms. Wilasinee Nognuam, Secretary-General of TGJTA, who provided direct support to customs officers during the evaluation process.


Diamond Valuation and Gems Inspection Process

The confiscated items, including diamonds and other gemstones, were examined by TGJTA experts to ensure accurate quality inspection, valuation, and customs tax calculation. These procedures guarantee transparency and compliance with customs regulations.

Steps in Valuation and Tax Calculation

  • Inspecting diamond quality and origin

  • Valuing gems based on international market standards

  • Calculating customs duties and taxes accordingly

Regulations for Confiscated Gems and Jewelry

After proper valuation, the confiscated diamonds and jewelry will be sold under Customs Department regulations, generating revenue for the state while preventing circulation in illegal markets.


 

Capacity Building for Customs Officers in Gem and Jewelry Assessment

Beyond expert support, TGJTA also discussed a capacity-building project with Suvarnabhumi Customs aimed at strengthening customs officers’ skills in gem and jewelry assessment.

Industry experts from TGJTA will provide training and technical knowledge to customs officers for more precise gem identification and valuation.
