TGJTA Lend Expertise to Customs for Appraisal of Seized Gemstones

BANGKOK – The Thai Gem and Jewelry Traders Association (TGJTA), in partnership with The Gem, Jewelry and Precious Metal Confederation of Thailand (GJPCT), has provided expert assistance to the Suvarnabhumi Airport Passenger Inspection Customs Bureau for the valuation of confiscated gemstones and jewelry.

The cooperation involved specialists from the associations conducting a detailed appraisal of items seized by customs officials. The goods were confiscated due to being imported into the Kingdom of Thailand without undergoing proper customs clearance procedures.

The appraisal process took place at the official meeting room of the Thai Gem and Jewelry Traders Association. Key figures overseeing the collaboration included Mr. Chompol Phornchindarak, President of the TGJTA; Mr. Somchai Phornchindarak, President of the GJPCT; and Ms. Vilasinee Noknuam, Secretary-General of the TGJTA.

The primary objective of this expert valuation is to accurately determine the market value of the seized items, which is essential for calculating the appropriate taxes and duties. Following the completion of the appraisal, the Customs Department will proceed with the public sale of the confiscated goods in accordance with official government regulations.
