TGJTA Celebrates 50 Years of Thailand–China Diplomatic Relations by Showcasing Young Thai Talent on the International Stage and Advancing the Global Colored Gemstone Market

July 10, 2025 – Yunnan Province, China
Mr. Chomphol Phornchindarak, President of the Thai Gem and Jewelry Traders Association (TGJTA), together with Ms. Wilasinee Noknuam, Secretary-General of the Association, attended the award ceremony of “The Luster of the Lancang-Mekong”—a major international jewelry design event held in celebration of the 50th anniversary of Thailand–China diplomatic relations.

The event featured two prominent design competitions:

  • ???? The First Session of China & Thailand Jewelry Design Creations Competition

???? The 9th Session of Jewelry Designer New Talent Competition

These initiatives aim to foster cross-cultural and economic collaboration through the gem and jewelry industry, aligning with the celebratory spirit of the long-standing partnership between the two nations.

As part of this cultural and creative exchange, TGJTA served as the official organizer of the China-Thai Jewelry Design Contest 2025 in Thailand, selecting outstanding young talents to represent the country in the Grand Final held in China.

The results brought immense pride to Thailand when Ms. Kewalin Numrit, a jewelry design student specializing in 3D CAD from the College of Creative Industry, Srinakharinwirot University, won first prize in the Grand Final. Her winning piece, “Reflections of Thai-China”, beautifully merged elements from traditional Chinese opera and Southern Thai shadow puppetry (Nang Talung), brought to life through intricate movable jewelry design that symbolizes the harmonious fusion of the two cultures.

During the event, Mr. Chomphol also spoke about Thailand’s vital role as a global hub for colored gemstones, sharing key insights into the ongoing growth and internationalization of the colored gemstone market.

He also introduced the “Gemports Colored Gemstone Report”—a significant initiative resulting from the collaboration of four leading gem and jewelry organizations from Thailand and China. This report represents a pivotal step toward enhancing the global trade of colored gemstones by:

  • Establishing a standardized reference for gemstone valuation,

  • Promoting transparency in trade, and

  • Encouraging sustainable growth across the industry.

This landmark initiative is expected to empower consumers with accurate, reliable market data, enabling better understanding of colored gemstone value and fostering greater trust in gem purchasing and collecting.

TGJTA reaffirms its commitment to nurturing emerging design talents, supporting innovation, and advancing Thailand’s leadership in the global colored gemstone industry—ensuring long-term growth, credibility, and global recognition.
