TGJTA Strengthens Gem and Education Ties During Visit to Yunnan Academy of Southeast Asian Studies

July 11, 2025 – Kunming, People’s Republic of China
Mr. Chomphol Phornchindarak, President of the Thai Gem and Jewelry Traders Association (TGJTA), together with Ms. Wilasinee Noknuam, Secretary-General of the Association, and the Thai delegation, paid an official visit to the Yunnan Academy of Southeast Asian Studies in Kunming. The group was warmly received by Professor Qu Jianwen, Director of the Academy.

The visit centered on fostering collaboration and knowledge exchange in the fields of culture, education, and gemology—with a particular focus on jade studies in Kunming and Thailand’s expertise in colored gemstones. As a regional hub for gem production and trade, Thailand plays a vital role in Southeast Asia’s gemstone industry, while Kunming is renowned for its long-standing jade tradition.

In recognition of the shared commitment to advancing gemological education and cultural cooperation, Professor Qu Jianwen appointed Mr. Chomphol Phornchindarak as an International Advisor on Gemstone Affairs to the Yunnan Academy of Southeast Asian Studies. An official certificate of appointment was presented during the visit.

This symbolic gesture marks the beginning of a deeper academic and industry partnership between Thailand and China, with both parties expressing mutual interest in co-developing research, educational initiatives, and cultural programs related to the gem and jewelry sector. TGJTA remains dedicated to building cross-border collaborations that promote sustainable development and global leadership in the gem industry.
